On Saturday, April 13th, 2024. The Funmike Empowerment Foundation embarked on a heartfelt mission to extend their support to the Heart of Gold Hospice Home, located at Onilegogoro Bus Stop, 75 Alh. Masha Rd, Surulere, Lagos. Accompanied by a dedicated team of 10 volunteers and 4 team members, we carried with us essential items to uplift the spirits of those under the care of the hospice.
Our contributions were as diverse as they were ranging from baskets of fresh fruits, a bag of rice, cartons of biscuits, drinks, cheese balls, peanuts, to cartons of Golden Morn cereal, among other essentials. Each item, carefully selected, aimed to provide comfort and nourishment to the residents of the hospice, who were primarily abandoned children grappling with various mental and physical disabilities.
Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by the founder of the Heart of Gold Hospice Home, Mrs. Laja Adedoyin. With grace and gratitude, she welcomed the Funmike Empowerment Foundation into the sanctuary she had built with unwavering dedication and love. Mrs. Adedoyin’s warmth and passion radiated as she shared her journey of establishing the hospice and the divine guidance that sustained her noble mission.
As the day unfolded, our volunteers and team members immersed themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the hospice, eager to connect with the children under its care. They were deeply moved by the resilience and joy exuded by the children, despite the challenges they faced daily. Taking utmost care to prevent any risk of infection, we interacted with the children.
Amidst moments of laughter and camaraderie, we also had the privilege of engaging in an insightful dialogue with Mrs. Adedoyin. She emphasized the immeasurable value of volunteerism beyond material donations, underscoring the significance of investing time and personal engagement in nurturing the well-being of the children. Her words resonated deeply, inspiring a renewed commitment to serve with compassion and dedication.
Before bidding farewell, The Funmike Empowerment Foundation gathered outside the hospice for a commemorative photo session, capturing the essence of their visit and the spirit of unity and compassion that permeated throughout the day. We also celebrated our Founder, Funmike as she celebrated her birthday on the 4th of April.
