Adetolayo Victoria Adebola

Full Tuition

Institution at the time of award: Lagos State University College of Medicine

Adetolayo Victoria Adebola is a medical student at Lagos State University College of Medicine with a strong commitment to advancing accessible and equitable healthcare. Her passion for medicine was inspired by her secondary school mathematics teacher, who lived with a physical disability following an accident but was unable to afford adequate medical care. Witnessing this injustice ignited her resolve to pursue a career in medicine and advocate for healthcare systems that are not limited by financial barriers. This motivation has driven her academic excellence, reflected in her current CGPA of 4.95/5.00.

Her academic journey has been shaped by perseverance in the face of significant financial hardship. Growing up in a family with limited financial stability, she experienced repeated disruptions to her education, including missing school terms in primary school due to unpaid fees and being sent home frequently during secondary school. During this period, her family relied primarily on her mother’s income, which placed considerable strain on household resources. Despite these challenges, she remained academically outstanding, consistently ranking first in her class and eventually serving as the senior prefect.

Beyond her personal academic achievements, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to service and education. After completing secondary school, she volunteered as an assistant teacher, where she supported and mentored over 30 students in Mathematics, contributing to their academic improvement. This experience strengthened her desire to impact lives not only through medicine but also through knowledge sharing and mentorship.

As a 300-level medical student, financial constraints have been a major challenge; however, this scholarship has provided meaningful relief and stability. The support has eased financial pressure, improved her access to essential academic resources, and enabled her to focus more fully on her studies and professional development. Through this opportunity, she is better positioned to continue excelling academically and to work toward a future where quality healthcare is accessible to all, regardless of financial limitations.
