Bassi Adam John is a final-year pharmacy student at the University of Maiduguri with a strong passion for community health, youth development. He was raised by a single mother after the loss of his father at a young age, an experience that shaped his resilience and determination to pursue education despite financial and personal challenges.
His academic journey in pharmacy has been marked by perseverance and active engagement beyond the classroom. Bassi has volunteered in community pharmacies and participated in health outreach programs. He is a Millennium Fellow (Class of 2023) and a participant of the Aspire Leadership Institute, where he worked on initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. He currently serves as the General Secretary of the Borno State Pharmacy Students Association and the Chairperson of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (UNIMAID Chapter). These experiences strengthened his interest in healthcare, leadership, and community service.
Being a beneficiary of the Funmike Empowerment Foundation Scholarship has been a turning point in his academic journey, providing the support and confidence needed to focus on his studies and leadership goals while preparing to give back to society. Meeting the Foundation’s founder, Miss Oluwafunmike, has been a great blessing in his academic journey, and beyond the scholarship, her mentorship has been invaluable.
